I’ve wanted to be a financial advisor for as long as I can remember, and that’s mostly due to my dad. Growing up, he’d always talk to me about the importance of investing for the future. He didn’t make it sound like a chore or some complex math problem; he just framed it as a way to take care of the people you love and prepare for whatever comes next.

Those conversations stuck with me and eventually led me to Texas Tech University, where I joined the country’s very first Personal Financial Planning program. My time at Texas Tech was a turning point for me and my career. My senior year was especially memorable because I passed the rigorous CFP® exam. Now, I am working to complete the experience requirement so I can put the credentials behind my name. Earlier in the year, two classmates and I won the National Financial Planning Challenge. We had to build a full financial plan from scratch, present our recommendations to judges, and compete in a knowledge bowl against the best programs in the nation.

It was a high-pressure environment, but it taught me how to think on my feet and deliver real results.Around that same time, I was also honored with the McGarraugh Leadership Award, which reminded me that being a good advisor is about more than just technical skill—it’s about being a leader for your clients when they’re facing big life decisions.

Now that I’m a Financial Planner at Oak Road Wealth Management, I try to carry that same mindset into every meeting. I’m not interested in giving people a 50-page report they’ll never look at again.

I think people are looking for clarity and confidence more than anything else. I’ve found that the best plans are the ones built on simple trust and a real, down-to-earth understanding of what my clients actually want their lives to look like. If we can’t talk about your money in plain English, we aren't doing it right. On the personal side, life is pretty busy.

My wife, Majo, is originally from Colombia, and we make it a priority to head back to her home country regularly to visit family and explore. It’s a great way for us to disconnect and gain some perspective, though I’m still working on my Spanish. When we’re here at home, you’ll usually find us being active—whether that’s going for a long walk on the Little Blue Trace Trail, heading out to a stadium to catch a live sporting event, or attending an event with First Baptist Church Blue Springs and First Español.

I’m a big believer that the work we do in the office is what allows us to enjoy those moments in the community, and I love helping clients find that same kind of balance.
